|Act||Singer and Guitarist|
Dani Shay is a singer-songwriter who was born and raised in Orlando, Florida. As a child, she expressed herself mainly through writing and drawing, until, at the age of eight, she discovered her singing voice. In the fourth grade, for an elementary school talent show, she performed her first solo for a live audience, singing the national anthem a cappella. Then, throughout middle and high school, Dani became highly involved in theatre, and after years of performing in musicals, dramas and improvised comedy acts, she was actually convinced that acting would be her primary creative path.
When she was 16, however, she received a life-changing birthday gift: her first guitar. Dani taught herself to play, and then started to blend elements of folk, pop, rap, soul and even comedy into her music. Her goal is to honestly reveal herself to the public, in hopes that her bravery will inspire others to face their fears, love themselves and live boldly. 1
Dani Shay's audition in Episode 603 consisted of performing her own rendition of Justin Bieber's "Baby," "What the Hell," while assuming an appearance similar to Bieber. Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne, and Howie Mandel all voted "Yes," sending her to the Vegas Round.
Dani Shay was one of the Judges' Favorites in the Vegas Round. She was sorted into the "Female Singers" category. Her first performance in Episode 611 consisted of singing "Superheros," an original song, while playing the guitar. Although she stopped in the middle of her performance, the judges decided to give her a second chance. Her second performance consisted of singing "Trouble" while playing the gutair. Her audition was strong enough for the judges to send her to the Quarterfinals.
Dani Shay's Quarterfinals performance in Episode 615 consisted of singing "Babylon" while playing the guitar. She did not receive enough votes to finish in at least fifth place in America's Vote, eliminating her from the competition in Episode 616 along with Dylan Andre, instead of Daniel Joseph Baker.
After the ShowEdit
Soon after her appearance on America's Got Talent, Dani Shay appeared on Oxygen's hit, The Glee Project 2, where she won the respect of Emmy-Award winning writer & director, Ryan Murphy. Her latest music video, "One", which was released in December 2012, premiered with the Grammy-Award winning band, FUN, and their LGBTQ organization, The Ally Coalition. In addition to making music, Dani enjoys acting, speaking, helping people, and learning about life. She is currently touring with the Be More Heroic campaign (a pro-love approach to the anti-bullying movement), which she helped to start with some of her friends back in early 2011. Additionally, Dani recently launched her first ever Kickstarter Campaign, to raise money for her upcoming album, DVD, and activity book. 2
