The first episode of Season 7, and the one hundred and thirty-eighth ever episode of America's Got Talent, aired on May 14, 2012. It was the first auditions episode and took place in Los Angeles and St. Louis. 14 acts from this episode proceeded to the Vegas Round, and 13 acts were rejected.

Episode 701 was the debut episode of Howard Stern as a judge, replacing Piers Morgan. Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandel returned as judges. Nick Cannon returned as host for his fourth season.
