Samuel J. Comroe was a comedian from Season 13 of America's Got Talent. He finished the competition in 4th place. Samuel returned for America's Got Talent: The Champions, where he was eliminated in the Preliminaries.

Background[]

Samuel J. Comroe, a Los Angeles native, is a stand-up comedian who performs at over 100 clubs and colleges annually. He made his TV debut on TBS’ Conan and has appeared on BET’s Real Husbands of Hollywood with Kevin Hart. In addition to his TV appearances Sam was recently featured on All Def Digital’s Comedy Originals. He is also the winner of Ricky Gervais’ Comedy Competition, The San Francisco Comedy Competition, and has over 33,000 subscribers on his YouTube Channel. His comedy is made up of the trials and tribulations of living with Tourette's Syndrome since being diagnosed at age six and observational material based on his life experiences. [1]

Samuel J. Comroe's audition in Episode 1303 consisted of performing a stand-up routine pertaining to his Tourette's. Howie Mandel, Mel B, Heidi Klum, and Simon Cowell all voted "Yes," sending Samuel to the Judge Cuts.

Judge Cuts[]

Samuel J. Comroe's Judge Cuts performance in Episode 1310 consisted of a routine where he talked about proposing to his wife and his disability. Howie Mandel, Mel B, Heidi Klum, and guest judge Chris Hardwick gave him standing ovations. His performance was strong enough for the judges to send him to the Quarterfinals along with Yumbo Dump.

Quarterfinals[]

Samuel J. Comroe's Week 2 Quarterfinals performance in Episode 1313 consisted of performing a stand-up routine about a dog he and his wife adopted. Mel B gave him a standing ovation. Samuel received enough votes to advance to the Semifinals in Episode 1314 along with Glennis Grace, although Glennis believed only Samuel advanced.

Semifinals[]

Samuel J. Comroe's Week 1 Semifinals performance in Episode 1317 consisted of performing a stand-up routine about the theory about why he has Tourette's syndrome, how a lady tried to pray it away during a show and an escapade involving the police at a party. Howie Mandel, Mel B, and Simon Cowell gave him standing ovations. Samuel finished in fourth, fifth or sixth place in America's Vote. In the Dunkin' Save, he received more online votes than Duo Transcend and Voices of Hope Children's Choir, advancing to the Finals in Episode 1318.

Finals[]

Samuel J. Comroe's Finals performance in Episode 1321 consisted of performing a stand-up routine about how he met his wife in high school, squeezing butts, people misinterpreting his Tourette's condition, and how he doesn't like rude people. Howie Mandel, Mel B, Heidi Klum, and Simon Cowell all gave him standing ovations.

Finale[]

For the finale in Episode 1322, Samuel J. Comroe teamed up with Howie Mandel to teach Mel B about stand-up comedy, and then had Mel perform his set dressed in a unicorn costume while he sat in Mel's chair at the judges' table. Simon Cowell buzzed her, but Samuel gave her the Golden Buzzer. He received enough votes to advance to the Top 5 instead of Vicki Barbolak. Samuel finished the competition in 4th place, ahead of Michael Ketterer, but behind Shin Lim, Zurcaroh and Brian King Joseph.

The Champions Preliminary[]

Samuel returned for The Champions.  His performance in Episode TC03 consisted of performing a stand up routine involving jokes about the ways in which his life has changed since the end of Season 13 as well as about his wife's pink luggage.  Howie MandelMel BHeidi Klum, and Simon Cowell all gave him standing ovations.  Samuel did not receive enough votes to advance to the night's Top 3, eliminating him from the competition.  

Trivia[]

  • Samuel is the third-highest placing comedian in the show's history.  Tom Cotter in Season 7, Taylor Williamson in Season 8 and Drew Lynch in Season 10 all finished as runner-up, while Ryan Niemiller and Josh Blue finished 3rd in Seasons 14 and 16 respectively,
  • Since the upgraded format in Season 10, Samuel is the second-highest placing act who relied on the Dunkin' Save in either the Quarterfinals or Semifinals.
