In The Stairwell was an a cappella group from Season 12 of America's Got Talent. They were eliminated in the Semifinals.

Background[]

Formed in 2004 by a group of freshmen at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO who—due to the discipline and rigors of their "doolie" year—sang together in the only place they could, "In the Stairwell" is the Academy’s premier all-male a cappella group. Now an official club, the cadets enjoy practicing each week and performing music from contemporary hits to the national anthem for official functions and entertainment on-base and in the community. All members graduate and commission as military officers. [1]

Audition[]

In The Stairwell's audition in Episode 1203 consisted of singing One Direction's "Drag Me Down" as a group. Howie Mandel buzzed the act, claiming he found the performance boring. Although Howie voted "No", Mel B, Heidi Klum, and Simon Cowell voted "Yes", sending the group to the Judge Cuts.

Judge Cuts[]

In The Stairwell's Judge Cuts performance in Episode 1210 consisted of singing NSYNC's "Bye Bye Bye". Guest judge Seal gave the group a standing ovation. The group's performance was strong enough for the judges to send it to the Quarterfinals.

Quarterfinals[]

In The Stairwell's Week 1 Quarterfinals performance in Episode 1211 consisted of singing Fun's "Some Nights". Mel B, Heidi Klum, and Simon Cowell gave the group standing ovations. In The Stairwell received enough votes to be sent to the Semifinals in Episode 1212 instead of Artyon & Paige.

Semifinals[]

In The Stairwell's Week 2 Semifinals performance in Episode 1219 consisted of singing Ed Sheeran's "Castle on the Hill". Howie Mandel, Mel B, Heidi Klum, and Simon Cowell all gave the group standing ovations. In The Stairwell did not receive enough votes to advance to the Finals in Episode 1220, eliminating the group from the competition instead of Light Balance.
